Two Arkansas teams showed up and showed out as they went undefeated at the 2016 Combo Doubles Southern Sectionals. While one Arkansas team made noteable efforts towards the championship title.
John Cloud and Marc Sherman's 55 & over 6.5 team was in it to win it! This team went undefeated by Louisiana, Mississippi (B), North Carolina (A), and Georgia (A) teams. Their final match was against Alabama where they beat them 2-1. Congratulations to Dana Bennett, Bo Frazier, Marc Sherman(acting captain), Bubba Brossett, David Alexander, Kim Backus, and Philip Hooper.
Brandon Kiker's 18 & over 5.5 team showed no mercy as they beat Alabama (B) 3-0, Louisiana 3-0, and Georgia 3-0 in their fight to be a finalist for sectionals. In the final round, this Arkansas team beat South Carolina 2-1. Members of this team include Brandon Kiker (captain), Mike Delozier, Hugh Finkelstein, Rick O’Keefe, Jake Yancey, Nick Shull, and Lucas Rowan.
Kim Delatin, from Bentonville, and her team fought hard all the way to the end and became finalist in the 40 & over women's 7.5
There were 168 men’s and women’s teams with 1,522 players from nine states. More information can be found on the tournament’s website, www.SouthernCombo.com.
